END DAYLIGHT SAVINGS TIME: PART ONE

A BLOG FOR :

THE MOVEMENT TO END DAYLIGHT SAVING TIME

Part One: What is Daylight Saving Time (DST) why does it                          exist and what do we replace it with?

The most common questions I get about Daylight Savings Time (DST) are based in confusion of terms.  Both spring and autumn time changes are DST changes.  This gets confused because some people call the springtime change "Standard Time" which is a misnomer.  Both time changes are part of the same system DST.

There is good reason for the confusion!  Standard Time is what most countries follow, and it is the same time Americans enjoy when we "spring forward" the clocks to get more light in the evening.  In a sense the spring forward to Standard Time is accurate because most of the world observes Standard Time, but both time changes are part of the Daylight Savings Time system.  Our goal is to get on Standard Time for our health, recreation, economic benefits, health benefits and environmental benefits.  This blog helps get those benefits.

Glad you're still with us!  Daylight Saving Time (DST) was instituted for which reason:

                                     A.  To help farmers in some way.
                                     B.  To help increase resources.
                                     C.  To help win the War to End all Wars.

The answer is (drum roll) all three reasons are correct.  YUP.  Basically World War One required more food production to support our troops and allies.  The reasoning is by adding an hour of daylight in the spring and taking it away in the fall  tractors get an extra hour to operate.  Unfortunately, few congressmen at the time were farmers, but most were war hawks who would vote for anything pro-war.  These days plow headlights could flood a stadium, but not then.  Another excuse was to conserve coal, but this was based on coal companies desire to manipulate markets, the same way oil companies now falsify evidence to increase profits.

Evidence for the above statements are in section three.  First, section two covers the top ten reasons why DST is bad for the economy, our health and the environment.
Then sources and citations are given in the third section.
